Pompano Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in all of South Florida. 100-150 yards wide with fine golden sand, running from Sunset Lane south of Atlantic Blvd. north to the Hillsboro Inlet offering all types of exciting watersports, sand volleyball, playgrounds and picnic areas. The public beach is guarded 7 days a week from 9:00 am to 4:45 pm. All are welcome.
Pompano Beach is named for the Pompano-a species of in-shore tropical game fish, which swims abundantly in the areas warm Atlantic Ocean. Pompano Beach has some of the world’s best sports fishing; the topography and temperature of the Atlantic Ocean just east of the beach are the perfect habitat for sport fish like mahi-mahi, wahoo, tuna and many others. The Pompano Beach Pier is always open and is great for snapper fishing, the Hillsboro Inlet features wooded fishing decks and bridges, fishing licenses not required. Boats and jet skis may be launched at Alsdorf Park located at N.E. 14th St. Causeway and the Intracoastal. Catamarans and sailboats may be launched at N.E. 16th St. and are required to stay 200 yards off the public beach. There are numerous types of charter boats and fishing boats available to rent for your boating pleasure.
Scuba diving and snorkeling is permitted everywhere, Pompano Beach has the most magnificent natural coral reefs that you can swim to from the shore, which you can only do in South Florida. For the serious diving enthusiasts, Pompano Beach is the "Wreck Capitol" of Florida. The majority of the wreck dives on the Gold Coast are located just outside the Hillsboro Inlet. With the warm Gulfstream current flowing parallel to the shoreline, the linear reef tract creates perfect conditions for drift diving also known as "Valet Diving" very popular in Pompano Beach. There are several ship wrecks and miles of colorful reefs to explore. There is a wide variety of scuba boats to choose from.
Recreation: Pompano Beach Municipal Golf Courses: The Greg Norman Signature Pines Golf Course is newly redesigned by Greg Norman himself, re-opened Jan 2013, with 18 holes over 7119 yards with a par of 72 it boasts Celebration Bermuda fairways and TifEagle greens. The adjacent Palms Course is 18 holes over 6280 yards with a par of 71. Palm Aire Country Club – Daily fees are available at all three courses, Palms Course is 18 holes, over 6931 yards with a par of 72, The Oaks Course is 18 holes over 6910 yards with a par of 71, The Cypress Course is 6880 yards with a par of 71. Pompano Beach Municipal Tennis Center offers 16 professional clay courts for day and night play, 8 are lighted, for reservations call 954.786.4051 also Tennis Courts (hard) are available at 7 other locations throughout the City.
Parks - Pompano Beach has some of the most beautiful parks in the County, scattered throughout the city, for various activities such as the Air Park Jogging Track with 4.4. miles of asphalt track. The always popular Pompano Dog Park - Canine Corner is located at the corner of N.E. 10th St and Federal Highway. Pools – The Pompano Beach Aquatic Center main Olympic size pool is 50 meters by 25 yards, with 2 one-meter spring boards. The other 25 meter pool is perfect for an easy swim. There are open swims daily for all from 1:00pm- 4:30pm. Enjoy waterobics, aquatherapy, adult lap swimming, private lessons, infant and children’s swimming classes and much more. The Houston/Sworn Aquatic Center hosts nine 25-yard lap lanes with two one-meter spring boards.
